What is STPI?
Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, Government of India created Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), an autonomous organization to cater to the needs of software Industry.
STPI has its Head Quarters at New Delhi and centers at the various locations in the country. STPI acts as a single window solution provider for industries in Information Technology. It provides infrastructure facilities including High Speed Data Communication connectivity required by IT industry on one hand and it solicitates all the approval required by this industry to execute the projects of software exports with the minimum gestation period, on the other hand.
STPI is a catalytic organization, striving to promote the Indian industry in the field of Information Technology (IT) through its promotional activities like consultancy and infrastructure facilities are well as regulatory efforts helping in promotion of Indian economy. STPI has also been delegated the powers to monitor various export oriented schemes of Government of India in the field of Information Technology like STP, EHTP etc.

STPI- Gandhinagar is one of the STPI center with its jurisdiction over entire Gujarat Province, and Union Territories of Daman, Diu and Dadra-Nagar Haveli.
STP Scheme Benefits & Highlights
- The Central Government, State Government, Public or Private sector undertakings or any combination there of may set up the Software Technology Park (STP). A STP unit may be a stand-alone unit or one of the units located in any STP complex.
- A company may set up STP unit anywhere in India.
- Foreign equity permissible up to 100%.
- 100% foreign equity investment in the companies permissible under the Automatic Route' of RBI.
- Approvals are given under single window clearance.
- Project costing less than Rs. 100 million investments are cleared by local STPI Authorities.
- Income Tax holiday as per sections 10A / 10B of the IT Act. STP units are exempted from payment of corporate Income Tax.
- STP / STP units is a duty free bonded area under section 58 & 65 of the Customs Act, 1962.
- 100% Customs Duty exemption on imports of Capital Goods.
- 100% Excise Duty exemption on indigenous items procurement.
- Import of Capital Goods on outright purchase, loan, free of cost and lease basis is permitted.
- Re-Export of capital goods is permitted
- Central Sales Tax reimbursement in indigenous items procurement.
- Green card enabling priority treatment for government clearances / other services.
- Sales in the DTA (Domestic Traffic Area) up to 50% of the foreign exchange earned by the STP unit.
- Inter Unit Transfer between EOU/STP/EHTP/EPZ is permitted.
- Sub-contracting between EOU/STP/EHTP/EPZ is permitted.
- Simplified Net Foreign Exchange Earnings (NEEP) * Export Performance (EP) norms, as applicable at the time of singing STP agreement.
- Use of computer system for training purpose permissible, provided no computer terminals has been installed outside the STP units premises. STP Scheme
- Capital invested by Foreign Entrepreneurs, Know-How Fees, Royalty, Dividend etc., can be freely repatriated after payment of Income Taxes due on them, if any.
- The items like computes and computers peripherals can be donated to recognized non-commercial education institutions, registered charitable hospitals, public libraries, and public funded research and development establishments, organizations of Government of India, or Government of a State or Union Territory without payment of any duties.
